Description
Benefits of Western Red Cedar Shingles include durability, exceptional insulation and low maintenance, as well as a natural, rustic texture. Shingles are ideal for remodelling, but can also be used for new construction projects.
Western Red Cedar is normally a fine-grained wood which exudes an aromatic odour, especially when freshly cut. In weight it is one of the lightest of the world’s valuable woods. It is characterized by a complete absence of pitch or resin. Its resistance to decay under most conditions results from the presence of natural preservative oils, some of which are phenolic compounds. The natural colour varies from blonde to brown, which exposure to weather usually darkens. Source; Red Cedar Shingle & Handsplit Shake Bureau 1971.
